1. Iceland
For the 13th year in a row, Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world, according to the 2020 Global Peace Index, published yesterday by the Institute for Economics and Peace. Countries are furthermore rated according to their economic cost of violence, where Iceland ranks 157th out of 163 countries.

Another contributing factor to peace in Iceland is its police do not carry guns, simply because there is no need. That being said, the Icelandic SWAT team possesses firearms and are called in, as needed. Though our regular police can handle most things through deescalation techniques.

2.New Zealand
In the 2018 Global Peace Index survey, New Zealand was ranked the 2nd most peaceful country in the world. Our independent justice system is highly regarded worldwide and in 2017-2018, the World Justice Project ranked us 7th in the Global rankings for the quality of our legal system.

In the Global Peace Index, which ranks countries on criteria such as crime, internal and external conflict, political instability and terrorism, New Zealand is beaten regularly only by Iceland.  Unlike most countries, therefore, New Zealand doesn't have near neighbours to fight with.
3.Portugal
Portugal is a southern European country on the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain. Its location on the Atlantic Ocean has influenced many aspects of its culture: salt cod and grilled sardines are national dishes, the Algarve's beaches are a major destination and much of the nation’s architecture dates to the 1500s–1800s, when Portugal had a powerful maritime empire. 

Portugal marches to the beat of its own drum when it comes to peace and safety. While over the past few years a majority European countries have deteriorated or have shown very minor improvements, this nation of about 10 million people has emerged as one of the biggest climbers, moving from the 18th position in 2014 to the third in 2017 and during these last two years (it briefly slipped to 4th place in 2018).

4.Austria
Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, is a landlocked East Alpine country in the southern part of Central Europe. It is composed of nine federated states, one of which is Vienna, Austria's capital and its largest city. 

Austria is famous for its castles, palaces and buildings, among other architectural works. Some of Austria's most famous castles include Festung Hohensalzburg, Burg Hohenwerfen, Castle Liechtenstein, and the Schloß Artstetten. Many of Austria's castles were created during the Habsburg reign.

5.Denmark
Denmark is a Scandinavian country comprising the Jutland Peninsula and numerous islands. It's linked to nearby Sweden via the Öresund bridge. Copenhagen, its capital, is home to royal palaces and colorful Nyhavn harbor, plus the Tivoli amusement park and the iconic “Little Mermaid” statue. Odense is writer Hans Christian Andersen’s hometown, with a medieval core of cobbled streets and half-timbered houses.

Denmark has been named the world's best country to live in for both business and life by CEOWORLD magazine. Denmark wins for its healthcare services, clean environment and affordable housing and living costs.

  6. Canada
Canada is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres, making it the world's second-largest country by total area. 

Canada is considered one of the safest destinations in the world. Crime rates are low, police are trusted, easy to contact, and quick to respond. No matter where you travel some common-sense is an important part of personal safety and the security of your property.

7. Singapore
Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign island city-state in maritime Southeast Asia.

Singapore has many interesting features including its lush greenery surroundings, festivals, and Islands. Additionally, millions of people to to this country because of the great number of career opportunities. Singapore is known for its clean streets and its modern and tall buildings.

Singapore is renowned for having some of the cleanest streets in the world, largely due to a 50,000-strong cleaning workforce employed to keep the streets clean.

  8.Czech Republic
The Czech Republic, also called by its short-form name, Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. The Czech Republic has hilly landscape that covers an area of 78,866 square kilometers with a mostly temperate continental climate and oceanic climate. 

The Czech Republic is the castle capital of the world.As such, they built a lot of castles. Over 2,000 of them remain in the country today, which is the highest density of castles in the world. Prague Castle is also the largest castle in the world by area, at over 7 hectares (18 acres).

9. Japan

Japan is an island country in East Asia, located in the northwest Pacific Ocean. It is bordered on the west by the Sea of Japan, and extends from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north toward the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south.

Japan is known worldwide for its traditional arts, including tea ceremonies, calligraphy and flower arranging. The country has a legacy of distinctive gardens, sculpture and poetry. Japan is home to more than a dozen UNESCO World Heritage sites and is the birthplace of sushi, one of its most famous.

10.Switzerland

Switzerland is a mountainous Central European country, home to numerous lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps. Its cities contain medieval quarters, with landmarks like capital Bern’s Zytglogge clock tower and Lucerne’s wooden chapel bridge. The country is also known for its ski resorts and hiking trails. Banking and finance are key industries, and Swiss watches and chocolate are world renowned.

Only ten countries in the world have been listed as conflict-free and Switzerland is one of them, a new global study shows. The study produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) think tank also lists Switzerland - which has compulsory military service - as the seventh most peaceful country in the world on Jun 15, 2016.
